General Dentistry Services
Cleanings are a necessary precaution to remove calculus, plaque, and other bacteria stuck to the surfaces of your teeth. Your teeth should be professionally cleaned twice a year. During your routine appointments, one of our dentists will check your teeth for oral cancer and cavities.
Sealants are used as a type of resin placed on your teeth on the biting surface to protect them from decay. Your back teeth are hard to get to for cleaning, and if they are not cleaned properly, it can cause food particles and bacteria to accumulate, causing cavities. If you apply sealants on your teeth’s surface, the depressions and grooves on your teeth will be sealed to keep this from happening. Sealants can be used on premolars, molars, and other areas that are susceptible to cavities.
Fillings are used to rebuild a damaged tooth due to decay. FaktorDMD will remove the decayed portion of your tooth and then fill it with whatever type of filling is decided upon. The filling material mostly used is amalgam or composite.
- Composite fillings are composed of a type of resin and are preferred when applied to more visible areas of your teeth because they match the natural color of your teeth.
- Amalgam fillings usually have mercury or silver in them. Much more resistant or durable to wear and tear. They are darker on your tooth and more noticeable when in your tooth.
Root Canal
Root canals are used to save teeth that are badly decayed and otherwise would have to be removed. The tooth will need to be drilled, then the bacteria, infected nerve, and other decay will be removed and filled with some medicated dental material. When the root canal procedure is done, a cap or crown will be placed on the top of the tooth to keep the tooth from breaking. In some cases, it might be better to extract the tooth, but a root canal can last a lifetime.
Periodontal therapy is effective in getting rid of any bacterial infection that can cause gum disease. Periodontal therapy helps control inflammation of the gums. If the bacterial infection is not eliminated right away, it can cause gingivitis, and if you do not have that treated, it might lead to periodontitis.
Bridges are appliances designed to replace a missing tooth/teeth. A bridge is a sort of combination of a crown and a false tooth which can be put over an existing implant or tooth. The implanted and natural teeth serve as the anchors for your bridge. The tooth replacement is known as a pontic and attaches to the crowns that will cover the implanted tooth or teeth or the natural teeth.
Dentures are full sets of artificial teeth, and they can be of two types:
- Full Dentures are made of a flesh-colored base from an acrylic material that fits over your gums. The support of your upper dentures will cover the roof of your mouth, while your lower dentures are horseshoe-shaped, so it will not interfere with your tongue. Once all of your natural teeth have been removed, our dental practice near you will take an impression, and your dentures will be made from that impression.
- Removable or partial dentures are made from a plastic or metal framework with plastic gums and teeth. It has metal or plastic clasps that will hold the dentures where they are placed.
